MAPU Association is cooperating with the Assembly of Self-organized Neighbours against Mining with technical support for the www.noalamina.org website, as well as with other activities aimed at spreading information in Argentina and internationally. Our goal is raising awareness about the dangers of mining exploitation, especially in third world regions, and providing tools for the affected communities which can help them in their struggle against transnational mining companies.
We are looking for volunteers to help us create flash games involving open pit mining issues that people could download or play online on the websites and blogs of the communities affected by open pit mining projects with use of cyanide, especially in Argentina and Latin America. The task includes drawing the necessary characters and backgrounds, writing the game code as well as working on the idea together with members of Mapu Association. The instructions for the game, as well as other necessary texts will be in Spanish.
The games can also be created in a collaborative way, among several programmers and illustrators. Maybe we can even put together a little team of programmers, animators and illustrators that could engage in other spreading and advocacy projects of our association. Our plan is to begin with relatively simple games (arcade-type) but later we would like to develop a more complex strategy or simulation game.
The created games will have a high visibility in Internet and they will be offered for download or online playing in the website of the Esquel Assembly (www.noalamina.org), with an average of 50.000 human visitors per month, as well as in many blogs and websites of other communities affected by open pit mining and related organizations, not only in Argentina, but in all Latin America. Naturally, the volunteers involved in this project will be credited for their work.
We hope to offer educational but entertaining games that will help especially young people to achieve awareness about the dangers of open pit mining with use of cyanide and the plundering system developed by mining companies in the peripheral countries.
For this placement you need to have skills in the area of computer game programming, as well as experience in the sector.
It is also possible to continue working online in the project when you are back home
